LinkedIn recently updated its privacy policy, and while it’s easy to overlook those emails, this particular update comes with a noteworthy change: LinkedIn is training AI with your content—unless you actively choose to opt-out.
What’s Changing?
LinkedIn is utilizing the content you create—whether it’s videos, newsletters, or posts—to help train its generative AI models. This process is set to happen by default, meaning that unless you opt-out, your content will be part of LinkedIn’s AI training program.
If you’re concerned about how your data is being used or simply prefer not to have your content involved in AI development, there is a way to manage these settings.
How to Opt Out
To stop LinkedIn from using your content for AI training, follow these steps:
- Click on the “Me” icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage.
- Select “Settings & Privacy” from the dropdown menu.
- Navigate to the “Data Privacy” section.
- Look for the “Data for Generative AI Improvement” option.
- Toggle this setting off if you do not want LinkedIn to use your content for AI training.
Why Does This Matter?
With AI becoming an increasingly prominent part of platforms like LinkedIn, it’s essential to stay informed about how your personal content and data are being used. If you’re someone who is mindful of privacy or simply prefers more control over how your content is leveraged, taking a few moments to adjust your settings can make a significant difference.
It’s also a good reminder that LinkedIn is not just a platform for professional networking—it’s evolving rapidly with AI, which means changes like this are likely to continue. Staying updated on privacy policies ensures that you’re in control of your data and how it’s used.
